Frequently Asked Questions
Should my pet be fasted for their blood work ?
If the test you select requires fasting or any special preparation, this information will be provided to you at time you schedule the appointment.
Can I accompany my pet during blood sample collection? At this time, we are not able to allow owners in the sample collection room. Most pets do very well without their owners present. If your pet becomes too anxious or stressed, we will notify you right away to discuss alternative options. If we are unable to safely and successfully collect the sample, we will refund the cost of the lab test.
What if I have questions about which lab test to choose for my pet?
We recommend discussing this with your regular or referring veterinarian, as they are best able to advise on which tests are most appropriate for your pet’s health needs.
Please note that we do not have veterinarians on site or available to provide this guidance. Our staff can, however, assist with general questions during check-in, and you are always welcome to message our team for additional support. CLICK HERE to Message our Team
Is a veterinarian on-site during blood sample collection? Yes. Veterinarians are on-site at all of our locations if needed. Depending on the circumstances, they are available to provide physical examinations and interpret lab results for an additional fee.
Are these diagnostic tests covered by pet insurance ?
You will need to contact your pet insurance provider directly for details on coverage of these tests. In most cases, if a veterinarian recommends a test, the cost is eligible for coverage. Additionally, if test results require interpretation and follow-up by a veterinarian, those services are typically covered as well. At this time, you will need to request reimbursement from your insurance provider if we are unable to provide this service for you or accept Trupanion Express Pay.
What happens if my pet’s lab results show a possible problem or disease?
If your pet’s results are abnormal, our team will contact you by text, phone, and email to confirm that you have a regular veterinarian who can provide support and interpretation. If you do not have a regular veterinarian and your pet’s results suggest that prompt care is needed, we will help arrange a same-day appointment at a veterinary hospital in San Ramon or Pleasanton. Please note that additional examination and interpretation fees will apply. Veterinary interpretation of lab results is only possible when paired with a physical examination of your pet. Phone-only interpretations are not available from our veterinarians.
